Newport Unlimited and Newport City Council are overseeing the £5 million redevelopment of the city’s old Market Quarter. Combining Newport’s history with contemporary design, the project will protect some of our city’s Grade II listed buildings but update areas such as Commercial Street and the High Street with fresh paving, street lighting and bins. The market building – built in 1864 – and street-side premises will be updated with new windows and doors, and space cleared for more restaurants and cafés. Read more
To allow better access, we’re relocating and enlarging the entrance to the market building – ready to cater for increased visitor numbers. The refurbishment of our traditional buildings is designed to accommodate a food academy, cafés and restaurants and give the Market Quarter a renewed sense of purpose.
