Progress on this project has been swift and it is anticipated that construction will begin in autumn 2013 with completion in autumn 2015. Independent research commissioned by Queensberry indicates that the new shopping centre in conjunction with the coordinated city centre investment strategy currently underway will re-establish Newport’s position within the top 100 UK retail destinations serving an extended catchment area with as many mid to upper affluence residents as Harrow, Sutton, Woking and Uxbridge.
As well as retail, Friars Walk will include a development of 10 family restaurants to make it the centre of consumer interaction in Newport, night and day. The location of the development – opposite the newly-opened university campus – will also ensure high student footfall.
